Ensuring Elasticity in DTY Yarn: The False Twist Deformation Method Explained

Draw Textured Yarn (DTY) is renowned for its elasticity, making it a staple in the textile industry for various applications such as sportswear, activewear, and intimate apparel. Achieving and maintaining optimal elasticity in DTY yarn is crucial for ensuring high-quality fabric performance. One of the most effective methods for enhancing DTY yarn elasticity is the false twist deformation technique.
The False Twist Deformation Method:
The false twist deformation method is a sophisticated process employed in the production of DTY yarn. It involves several sequential steps meticulously designed to impart elasticity to the yarn.
Machine Setup:
The multifilament yarn is guided through a false-twist texturing machine equipped with various components, including feed roller, heating roller, cooling roller, second heater, oil roller, twister, and take-up roller.
The setup of these components is critical to ensure the smooth progression of the yarn through the machine.
Yarn Flow:
Initially, the POY (Partially Oriented Yarn) yarn is allowed to flow between two shafts within the machine.
The yarn passes through shaft 1 before being transferred to shaft 2, setting the stage for subsequent processing.
Twisting and Stretching:
As the yarn enters the machine, it undergoes simultaneous stretching and twisting.
This process is vital for imparting elasticity to the yarn, allowing it to stretch and recover without losing its structural integrity.
Heat Setting:
Upon exiting shaft 1, the yarn is subjected to heat from a heater, facilitating heat setting at low temperatures.
Heat setting plays a crucial role in stabilizing the twisted structure of the yarn, enhancing its elasticity.
Rapid Cooling:
Following heat setting, the yarn is rapidly cooled using a cooling system integrated into the machine.
Rapid cooling ensures that the twist is locked in place, preserving the elasticity of the yarn.
Torsion Mechanism:
Torsion, or twisting, is achieved through a friction mechanism, such as rotating discs or belts.
This mechanism imparts the desired level of twist to the yarn, contributing to its elasticity.
Ensuring Optimal Elasticity:
To ensure the elasticity of Draw Textured Yarn produced through the false twist deformation method, several key considerations must be addressed:
Temperature Control:
Maintaining precise temperature control throughout the process is essential.
The temperature should be lower than the main heater to prevent overheating and damage to the yarn structure.
Sequential Processing:
The yarn should pass through the overfed auxiliary heater before reaching the main heater.
This sequential processing ensures that the yarn is gradually exposed to heat, allowing for uniform heat setting.
